ยุทธการที่เมสส์เคียร์ช (5 พฤษภาคม ค.ศ. 1800) เป็นการต่อสู้ระหว่าง กองทัพ ฝรั่งเศสฝ่ายสาธารณรัฐนำโดยฌอง วิกเตอร์ มารี โมโร กับกองทัพ ออสเตรียของราชวงศ์ฮับส์ บู ร์ก นำโดยปอล เครย์ในช่วงเริ่มต้นของการรบในเยอรมนีปี ค.ศ. 1800 กองทัพภาคสนามของโมโรที่มีกำลังพล 108,000 นาย เผชิญหน้ากับกองทัพของเครย์ที่มีกำลังพล 120,000 นาย อยู่คนละฝั่ง แม่น้ำ ไรน์ด้วยกลยุทธ์การรบหลายอย่าง โมโรสามารถข้ามแม่น้ำไรน์และรวมกำลังพลที่เหนือกว่าเพื่อเอาชนะเครย์ในยุทธการที่สต็อกคาชและเอ็นเกนในวันที่ 3 พฤษภาคม หลังจากที่เครย์ถอยทัพไปทางเหนือเล็กน้อย ทั้งสองฝ่ายก็มาปะทะกันอีกครั้งที่เมสส์เคียร์ชหลังจากการต่อสู้ที่ดุเดือด เครย์ก็ถอนทัพอีกครั้ง ยอมรับความพ่ายแพ้ต่อฝรั่งเศส

เมื่อวันที่ 25 เมษายน ค.ศ. 1800 กองทัพฝรั่งเศส ( Armée d'Allemagne)ภายใต้ การนำของ ฌอง วิกเตอร์ มารี โม โร ( Jean Victor Marie Moreau)ได้ข้ามแม่น้ำไรน์ที่เมืองเคห์ล (Kehl)และ ชาฟฟ์เฮาเซน ( Schaffhausen ) กองพลน้อยที่ 1 (1st Demi-Brigade) ของกองทัพที่นำโดย ลอรองต์ เดอ กูวิยง-แซงต์-ซีร์ (Laurent de Gouvion-Saint-Cyr) ได้ยึด เมืองแซงต์-จอร์เจน (St. Georgen)และเข้าสู่ป่าดำที่ เมืองไฟรบูร์ก อิม ไบรส์เกา ( Freiburg im Breisgau ) หลังจากยึด เมืองสตูห์ลิงเงน ( Stuhlingen) ซึ่งอยู่ห่างจากโดนาอูเอสชิง เงน (Donaueschingen) ไปทางใต้ 25 กิโลเมตรหน่วยนี้ได้เข้าร่วมในยุทธการสต็อกคาช (Stockach) และเอ็นเงน (Engen)เมื่อวันที่ 3 พฤษภาคม ค.ศ. 1800 หลังจากนั้นกองทัพออสเตรียได้ถอยทัพไปยังเมืองเมสส์เคียร์ช (Meßkirch)ซึ่งเป็นตำแหน่งป้องกันที่ได้เปรียบกว่า
กองทัพฝรั่งเศสโจมตีเมืองนี้ซ้ำแล้วซ้ำเล่าในวันที่ 4 และ 5 พฤษภาคม ค.ศ. 1800 แต่ก็ไม่สำเร็จ กองพลน้อยที่ 1 แม้จะอยู่ภายใต้การบังคับบัญชาของออสเตรีย แต่ก็สามารถยึดเมืองครุมบัคและเนินเขารอบๆ ซึ่งควบคุมเมืองเมสส์เคียร์ชได้สำเร็จ ดังนั้น กองทัพออสเตรียจึงถอยกลับไปยังซิกมาริงเงนตามด้วยกองทัพฝรั่งเศสการรบที่บิเบอรัคจึงเกิดขึ้นในวันที่ 9 พฤษภาคม ค.ศ. 1800
